Can books and stories about characters and events that are not real teach us anything useful?

I have read books since I first learned how to read and even before that, my mom would read long chapter books like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson before I went to bed. Both my mom and my dad were big readers when they were younger, my mom still being an avid reader and my dad a little bit less of one. My response to this question is of course, yes. I was raised on reading about fictional worlds and people. I think that when you read, especially when you have a wild imagination like mine, you are given the ability to open a door to a world that is unlike ours, sometimes better that our own world. I think people need this escape, some more than others, and it is a beautiful thing that authors are able to do this with just their words. I think you can learn a lot from reading in general, not only can you expand your vocabulary, but are also able to learn new things that could be useful in life. When I was younger, I never thought that I would enjoy learning about mythical creatures and types of abilities that have been thought of by people's imagination and used for characters in stories. But I love whenever I hear about a creature that I've never heard of or a new ability that has been made up. These are things I learned from fictional universes in the books that I read and they are useful to me because I am able to educate someone about the things I find interesting and see them become interested in it as well.

Interesting Thing I Heard

Something I learned recently was an easy way to remember that the hippocampus is the part of the brain that stores the new memories you retain everyday. The way to remember this is to say, "I would remember if I saw a hippo on campus." I also learned that the occipital lobe, which is located at the back of the brain, controls the eyes.
